"Festival of Trees"

The 4th Annual Festival of Trees is winding down. Today is the last day to cast your vote and help determine the winner of this years festival.

The 4th Annual Festival of Trees is a fundraiser for the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Participants pay a fee and then provide and decorate trees to be viewed and judged by the community. Winners of the Festival receive bragging rights (and a plaque)!

The competition was stiff this year. Amy Howard, a teacher from Crestview Elementary, always comes up with a fun design. For the past two years, she has created magnificent trees for competition, each year a little more grand.

This year was no different. Clifford the Big Red Dog stands approximately 10 feet tall and is covered with books, toy dogs and lights.

Michelle Woodard, a local dentist, entered an adorable "Sugar Free Candy"Tree and Freckled Frog's pink and blue tree was inspired by a beautiful Faith Hill song, "A Baby Changes Everything" There were 26 participants in all this year.

Throughout the week buses from the local Preschools filled the square in Downtown Covington as children came to see the trees and visit with Santa .

This annual event has become a holiday tradition for Covington and Tipton County. To learn more about the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse visit them at http://www.carlperkinscenter.org/.
